Frequently asked questions
What is a healthy BMI?
For most adults, 18.5 to 24.9. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25 to 29.9 overweight and 30 or more obese.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
No. It doesn't separate muscle from fat and is not meant for children, pregnant women or athletes. A doctor can give a fuller picture.
Do Asian adults use different BMI cut-offs?
Some health bodies suggest lower cut-offs for South Asian adults because health risks can start at a lower BMI. Ask your doctor what applies to you.
